COLLEGE BASKETBALL No. 1 Illinois tops Wisconsin for 20th straight win

MADISON, Wis. -- One dazzling streak ended and another endured.
Top-ranked Illinois beat No. 18 Wisconsin 75-65 on Tuesday night, extending the nation's longest winning streak to 20 games and ending the nation's longest homecourt winning streak at 38.
Led by Luther Head's 18 points and reserve Jack Ingram's clutch play down the stretch, Illinois became the first team to beat the Badgers at the Kohl Center since Wake Forest on Dec. 4, 2002.
The Illini did it by scoring 14 of the game's final 15 points after overcoming an eight-point deficit midway through the second half.
Illinois coach Bruce Weber, who had peddled his team as the underdog despite eight straight weeks atop the poll, said the biggest thing about the Illini's first win in Madison since 1998 was what it meant in the Big Ten race, where the Illini are 6-0.
"I told the kids if we win this one, we're going to be one up on everyone because I don't know if anyone's capable of coming in here and winning besides us after the Michigan State loss, so it gives us one up for the Big Ten championship," Weber said.
The Badgers fell to 53-3 at home under Bo Ryan, who lost a Big Ten home game for the first time in his four seasons as coach.
"The guys weren't worried about losing any streak. It was a Big Ten conference game. That's all we were playing for," said Ryan.
The Badgers (13-4, 4-2) led 56-48 with 10:30 remaining and were still up by three with 4:30 left.
Sore-footed Alando Tucker, who led Wisconsin with 16 points, drove to the basket to give the Badgers a 64-61 lead with 4:31 to go, but dreams of Wisconsin's first win over a top-ranked opponent since beating Ohio State in 1962 soon faded.
James Augustine, who was limited by foul trouble to 4 minutes in the first half, made two free throws with 4:11 left and Jack Ingram did the same at 3:39, putting the Illini ahead for good, 65-64.
Augustine, who scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, added consecutive dunks to make it 69-64, the first one coming off a steal by Ingram.
No. 6 Kansas 86, Baylor 66
WACO, Texas -- Wayne Simien scored 18 points and the Jayhawks made a school-record 16 3-pointers to remain unbeaten in the Big 12.
The Jayhawks (15-1, 5-0), who were coming off their first loss of the season, were 16-of-27 from beyond the arc.
Jeff Hawkins was 5-for-5 on 3-pointers and had 15 points for Kansas.
Aaron Bruce had 23 points for Baylor (9-7, 1-4), which has lost 14 straight against ranked opponents and is just 1-10 overall against Kansas.
No. 7 Kentucky 84, Tennessee 62
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Patrick Sparks scored 19 points and Kelenna Azubuike added 17 for the Wildcats (15-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference), who lost senior forward Chuck Hayes in the first half to a broken nose.
Chris Lofton had 17 points for the Volunteers (10-9, 3-3), who have lost six straight to Kentucky.
No. 16 Texas 80, Texas Tech 73
AUSTIN, Texas -- Daniel Gibson scored 20 points, hitting all six of his 3-pointers, to lead the Longhorns (15-4, 4-2 Big 12), who were 14-of-21 from 3-point range.
Ronald Ross scored 29 points for Texas Tech (11-5, 3-2), which came in as the Big 12's top-scoring team but shot just 37 percent against Texas' new zone defense.
No. 19 Connecticut 68, West Virginia 58
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Rashad Anderson, not starting for the first time this season, scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half to lead the Huskies (12-4, 4-2 Big East), who dominated inside, holding a 47-27 rebound advantage.
Tyrone Sally scored 16 points for West Virginia (11-6, 1-5), which lost its fifth straight.
Women
MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kendra Wecker scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead No. 16 Kansas State to a 74-52 victory over No. 18 Iowa State.
Claire Coggins and Laurie Koehn each added 13 points for the Wildcats (15-3, 6-1 Big 12).
Katie Robinette had 23 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cyclones (15-2, 5-1), who had their 12-game winning streak stopped.
Anne O'Neil, Iowa State's leading scorer, was held to nine points on 3-for-13 shooting.
