Rape suspect's bond set at $1 million

YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set at $1 million for David Hackett, 42, of West Chalmers Avenue, who is charged with raping a 25-year-old woman.
Municipal Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. set Hackett's bond at arraignment Monday and scheduled a preliminary hearing for 10:15 a.m. Jan. 31.
The accuser and her boyfriend accepted a ride from Hackett from the WRTA bus station downtown Jan. 15. The couple had intended to go to a friend's in Campbell. While the boyfriend went into a store on McGuffey Road on the East Side to get cigarettes, Hackett drove off with the woman in the back seat, according to reports.
The accuser told police Hackett drove back toward the North Side and pulled behind a yellow brick building, where he forced her at knife point to have sex.
Hackett, known as "J Money," was released on parole Nov. 5, 2002, from the Lorain Correctional Institution after having served 23 years for aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, records show.
