Probe: Man shot, burned himself

WARREN -- Investigators confirmed Monday that a man found dead in a burning house shot himself in the head after apparently dousing living room furniture with gasoline and setting it afire.
Firefighters found Dennis M. Collier, 33, dead beside a .38-caliber handgun Friday evening on the second floor of 1176 Adelaide Ave. S.E.
Investigators said Collier was $75,000 in debt and distressed over the recent breakup of a relationship.
The house in which he died is owned by Paul J. Gilliland. It appears Collier entered the house while Gilliland was at work, said Warren Fire Chief Kenneth Nussle.
Gilliland told investigators Collier lived at the house until last month, Nussle said.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the living room after a neighbor taking out the trash spotted smoke and called 911 at 5:14 p.m.
The autopsy indicates Collier pulled the trigger while the gun was in his mouth, a shot that killed him.
