Eighth-grader to sing national anthem

Tuesday, January 25, 2005

STRUTHERS -- Candace Campana, a Struthers Middle School eighth-grader, will be making her voice heard before Tuesday's Cleveland Barons hockey game.
Candace, the daughter of T.J. and Debbie Campana of Struthers, was selected to sing the national anthem before the start of the Barons-Rochester Americans contest, set for 7 p.m. at Gund Arena.
About a week after receiving a tape of Candace singing the national anthem at a Mahoning Valley Scrappers game last summer, Nate Taylor, the Barons' marketing and promotions coordinator, called and asked her to perform at Tuesday's game.
For the last four years, Candace has performed with Easy Street Productions, including an appearance in their version of "Little Rascals."
The 14-year-old honor roll pupil also has appeared in "The Hobbit" at the Youngstown Playhouse and had a singing part in a recent commercial for Sheeley's Furniture and Appliance. She is scheduled to be on "The Morning Show" Thursday on WKBN-TV 27.
