& lt;B & gt;John Antoun, 78 & lt;BR & gt;
& lt;/B & gt; & lt;BR & gt;
FOWLER & amp;#150; John Antoun, 78, of 2689 Sodom-Hutchings Road, entered into eternal peace after a long, courageous battle with an illness Friday at St. Joseph Health Center. & lt;BR & gt;
He was born May 21, 1926 in Youngstown, the son of Fred and Frances George Antoun, and had lived in Fowler for 57 years. & lt;BR & gt;
Mr. Antoun worked for Fowler Township for 25 1/2 years. He first served as police constable and then later as their first police chief. As police chief, he treated everyone with dignity and respect. He was also zoning inspector and retired in May of 1988. & lt;BR & gt;
John served his country during WWII. He was with the 184th infantry, 31st regiment, 7th division, Company C in Okinawa and Korea in 1945 and 1946. He was in the battle of Okinawa, which was one of the worst battles in Japan. He was 300 miles away when the first atomic bomb was dropped in August of 1945. John received the Bronze Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three stars for three separate battles, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the Japan Occupational Medal, the Sharpshooter Rifle Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. He received these medals 55 years later with the help of Congressman James A. Traficant Jr. & lt;BR & gt;
He was a member of the A.A.R.P., the Trumbull County Farm Bureau, Cortland Lodge No. 529 F. & amp;amp; A.M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, Kinsman Chapter No. 212 Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons and Hartford V.F.W. Post No. 3535. He was a lifetime charter member of the National WWII Memorial and was an honorary deputy sheriff in Ector county in Texas. & lt;BR & gt;
John loved having family and friends come to the house and visit and have coffee. He really treasured these times. & lt;BR & gt;
John will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Patricia Bradley Antoun, whom he married Nov. 25, 1972; his niece, Katie Bradley, who made her home with them and he loved like a daughter; and his loving family and his caregivers, Roberta (Nick) Lavaglio, Debbie (Harry) Deeley, Rhonda (Michael) Jackson and Sheila Monroe. & lt;BR & gt;
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Freda Kohut, Antoinette Johnson, Hazel Lunau and Mary Bidinatto; and his brothers, Anthony and Steve Antoun. & lt;BR & gt;

He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all. & lt;BR & gt;
He was a 1948 graduate of Ursuline High School. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, worked for the railroad and then went on to work as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1984 he was elected president of the Letter Carrier & amp;#146;s Union. From 1997 to 1999 he also served as president of the Ohio State Association of Letter Carriers, where he was on the executive board for 10 years. He was a member of the Smokey Hollow Golden Eagles, Catholic War Vets, Arco Club Bocce League, Golden Eagles, Postal Union No. 385, and ITAM Branch No. 385. He enjoyed his grandchildren, bocce with his friends, local high school football games, Italian music, and Italian festivals. Being from the Smokey Hollow area, he was active in organizing the Smokey Hollow Golf Outing each year. & lt;BR & gt;
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 43, the former Norma Snyder, whom he married Oct. 28, 1961; two sons, Mark (Jennifer) DiGiacomo and Dino (Lora) DiGiacomo; two sisters, Lita Habuda of Sharpsville, Pa. and Maryann (Guy) DiPillo of Boardman; his mother-in-law, Mary Snyder, four grandchildren, Markie Jr., Alexis, Little Dino, and Dominique, and three step grandchildren, Preston, Austin, and Jacob. & lt;BR & gt;

She was a professor of women & amp;#146;s physical education at Youngstown College, Youngstown University and Youngstown State University for 43 years where she was a retired Professor Emeritus. & lt;BR & gt;

Mr. Less was born Oct. 25, 1944 in Salem, a son of Francis G. and Jane L. Sauerwein Less, and had lived in this area all of his life. & lt;BR & gt;

Mr. Penney was a lifelong sports fan and began officiating baseball, softball and basketball for various city and church leagues in the 1940s and continued to be an active sports official into the 1980s. He umpired Pony and Colt League baseball for the Poland Community Baseball Association from 1962 through the 1980 season, serving as the Chief (Pony/Colt League) umpire from 1977 to 1980. In 2000, he was inducted into the Poland Community Baseball Association Hall of Fame. & lt;BR & gt;
He loved people and strove his entire adult life to help them in any way he could and most importantly to introduce them to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was very active in the work of the Youngstown Rescue Mission between 1958 and 1993, serving on its board of directors from 1965 to 1985. He was a member of the Gideons from 1975 to 1995 and had served as a volunteer camp counselor at Camp Burton in Burton from 1960 to 1970. & lt;BR & gt;
He had been very active in his churches, the First Baptist Church of Struthers from 1956 to 1973 and the Mill Creek Baptist Church in Youngstown from 1973 to 1993, where he served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, Christian education chairman, Deacon, treasurer, junior church teacher, custodian and church bus driver. He was most recently a member of the Evangel Baptist Church in Boardman. & lt;BR & gt;
He leaves his wife, the former Margie M. LeBaron, whom he married Sept. 5, 1953; a daughter, Marsha L. (Ray) Kehrt of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, David C. (Michelle) Penney of Columbus and James C. Mrs. Wellman was born May 7, 1924 in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of Earl V. and Gertrude Elizabeth Hamilton Davis. She came to Poland from New Castle in 1946. & lt;BR & gt;
She worked for Ward & amp;#146;s Tip-Top for 22 years and retired from Schwebel & amp;#146;s Bakery after 10 years of service. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Struthers. & lt;BR & gt;
Affectionately known as & amp;#147;Nana Kitty, & amp;#148; Mrs. Wellman was devoted to her family. & lt;BR & gt;
Her husband, Daniel Wellman, whom she married June 4, 1941, died June 26,1990. & lt;BR & gt;
