This winter offers old looks updated for today's girls and guys, classics and cozies that dress up and dress down.
Here are a few hot trends we're seeing in cold-weather wear:
THE NEED FOR TWEED
Yes, our grandmothers wore lots of tweed 40 years ago, but it's back, it's fitted and it's fab.
You can dress up this look by pairing it with a matching skirt and boots or dress it down with jeans and a lace camisole. It's the perfect snappy casual look, but also the priciest. While the racks at Abercrombie & amp; Fitch and Gap are full of this look, stores like Kohl's and even Target offer some great-looking yet affordable options.
Your grandmother can help you complete this look with a brooch or two.
BE A BLUEJEANS BABE
The classic favorite is, of course, the denim jacket. This year it's fitted and embellished with faux fur. Because you can wear this look with almost anything, it's worth the price to buy the "right" one. Expect to pay around $70 or more for this classic at the trendier teen shops.
CORDUROY'S A CLASSIC
A great corduroy jacket can top off almost any casual outfit. Pair it with jeans and a cute top or sweater, and you're ready to go anywhere. (Please, just don't wear a cord jacket with cord pants!) Corduroy's less expensive and lower-maintenance than a lot of popular fabrics right now, too, so you don't have to worry about wearing it when the weather's bad.
GUYS ARE GOING SUEDE
Suede's always been a favorite for adult-types who can afford it . . . and the dry cleaning. But a lot of newer styles and kinds of suedes (including stain-resistant!) are making it more practical for teens. Guys are going after brushed, washed and faded suedes this season, store managers say. Paired with cool jeans and boots, guys in suede look trendy from top to bottom.
