LOS ANGELES -- "X-Files" star Gillian Anderson, 36, has taken the plunge: Her rep confirmed Wednesday that the actress wed longtime boyfriend, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, 42, on Dec. 29 in Kenya, People mag reports. The lush, but small ceremony on Lamu Island, off Kenya's coast, which included hymns sung by a Kenyan choir in Swahili, was attended by close friends and family. "It was a spectacular occasion," Ozanne's friend Jonathan Clayton said. "They were both delighted, but I would rather not go into details."
Haysbert due back at '24'
LOS ANGELES -- Apparently, doing Allstate commercials isn't enough for Dennis Haysbert. After leaving Fox's real-time terrorist thriller "24" last season following his character president David Palmer's dramatic decision not to seek re-election, Haysbert has been tapped to return for the final six episodes this season, according to the Hollywood Reporter. For the past three seasons of "24," Haysbert starred opposite Kiefer Sutherland as a soft-spoken senator-turned-president, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2003. "24" has a habit of bringing back characters -- especially villains. Nina Myers (Sarah Clarke) and president Palmer's conniving wife, Sherry (Penny Johnson Jerald), both made several comebacks until their demise last season.
'Desperate' on 'The View'
NEW YORK -- The ladies at "The View" are getting desperate. During the week of Feb. 7, the five stars of "Desperate Housewives" will co-host ABC's "The View" while the daytime talk show broadcasts from Los Angeles. Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross will each join the show for a day. The Wisteria Lane residents will be filling in for "The View" moderator Meredith Vieira, who will not be making the trip from New York due to family obligations. Broadcasting live from the El Capitan Theatre, the week is a themed series called "The View Celebrates Los Angeles."
Macpherson encouragesnew moms to breast-feed
LONDON -- Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson visited a hospital maternity ward to encourage new mothers to breast-feed their babies. Macpherson, who promotes breast-feeding for UNICEF, was shown around the maternity unit at the Royal Oldham Hospital in Manchester, northern England, on Wednesday. She presented the hospital with a Baby Friendly Award for its work in supporting mothers who want to breast-feed. In 1994, before the Royal Oldham Hospital started working toward Baby Friendly standards, only 29 percent of new mothers were breast-feeding and almost all of those quit within the first four weeks after the birth. By 2004, almost two-thirds of new mothers were breast-feeding and 40 percent were still doing so after four weeks.
Notable death
LOS ANGELES -- Lamont Bentley, who was a regular in the 1990s sitcom "Moesha" and appeared frequently in television and movies, was killed in a car crash, his manager said Wednesday. Bentley died Tuesday night when his vehicle plunged off the San Diego Freeway, manager Susan Ferris said. He was the only person in the vehicle. Bentley, 31, played Hakeem Campbell, the longtime friend of pop singer Brandy's character, Moesha Mitchell, in the UPN sitcom "Moesha." Bentley had appeared in a number of films, including "The Wash" and "Tales From the Hood." He also played Tupac Shakur in the TV movie, "Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story," and had appeared in guest roles on "The Parkers," "NYPD Blue" and "Clueless." The Milwaukee native and father of two daughters began his career after moving to Los Angeles with his mother, an aspiring singer.
