Cortland man, 78,killed in 2-vehicle crash
VIENNA -- Nick M. Lambert, 78, of Cortland, was killed when he pulled into the path of a van at state Route 82 and Scoville North Road. Ohio State Highway Patrol's Warren barracks said Lambert pulled into the path of a van driven by Ronald V. Fiore, 49, of Warren just before 5 p.m. Friday. Fiore's vehicle hit the passenger side of Lambert's 1993 Cadillac, pushing it into a ditch. Lambert was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital. Fiore was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital where officials said he was in satisfactory condition Friday night. The crash remains under investigation.
Bond set for manaccused in murder
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set at $100,000 for Robert Parker, 24, of Youngstown, who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Zymond Bellard, 17, of Eastway Drive. Bellard was killed Wednesday evening at an apartment on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Municipal Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly set Parker's bond at arraignment Friday and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Jan. 31.
Vice squad raidsresult in drug arrests
YOUNGSTOWN -- Raids at 545 Garfield St. and 22 Breaden St. by the vice squad turned up crack cocaine and marijuana and resulted in three arrests.
At the Garfield house, James Jones, 19, of Overland Avenue, was charged Thursday evening with aggravated trafficking in crack and Dennis Artis, 40, of West LaClede Avenue with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they found 21 packaged-for-sale bags of crack hidden in a ceiling crawl space. At arraignment Friday in municipal court, Artis pleaded guilty and was placed on one year's probation. Jones, who had complained of chest pains, was taken to a hospital and will be arraigned later, a deputy clerk of court said.
At the house on Breaden, Tyrone Jennings, 21, of Carroll Street was charged Thursday evening with aggravated trafficking in marijuana. Police said they found six large bags of marijuana in the living room. Jennings' bond was set at $10,000 and a preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 31.
Rounds found
WARREN -- Police found two spent rounds at the 157 Delaware N.W. residence of a 41-year-old woman. She told city police she'd heard several shots fired Wednesday night, and in the morning discovered her rear door and window had been struck.
Truck stolen
WARREN -- Someone's U-Haul truck rental is about a week overdue. The rental business at 644 Main Ave. S.W. reported a theft to city police, stating that the 14-foot 1989 truck should have been returned Jan. 14. The truck has U-Haul markings, the report noted.
Bank bags stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Pepsi employee told police that he emptied the cash boxes on two vending machines at Wilson High School on Thursday and placed the coins in bank bags, which were stolen while he filled the machines. The bags, which contained a total of about $400, had been placed on top of the machines. The Pepsi employee said there were several students loitering where he was working but he didn't see who took the cash bags.
