OHIO STATEHOUSE Mahoning Valley officials are set for committees



Trumbull County's new GOP legislator will serve on the four committees.
COLUMBUS -- Three Mahoning Valley state representatives have snared ranking Democratic positions in standing Ohio House committees while a fourth has been named the top Democrat on a subcommittee, House officials said Tuesday.
State Rep. Kenneth A. Carano of Austintown, D-59th, has been named ranking Democrat on the House Education Committee. Carano also will serve on the Rules & amp; Reference Committee.
State Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood of Niles, D-65th, was named ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee and was named to the Civil & amp; Commercial Law, Health Committee and the Children's Health Care & amp; Family Services Subcommittee.
State Rep. Sylvester Patton of Youngstown, D-60th, will be the ranking Democrat on the Transportation & amp; Justice Subcommittee of the influential, state budget-writing House Finance Committee. Patton was also named to the Transportation, Public Safety & amp; Homeland Security Committee.
State Rep. John A. Boccieri of New Middletown, D-61st, was named to the Financial Institutions, Real Estate & amp; Securities; Juvenile & amp; Family Law; and Insurance committees.
State Rep. Randy Law of Warren, R-64th, elected to his first term in the House, was named to the House Judiciary; Transportation Public Safety & amp; Homeland Security; Economic Development & amp; Environment; and Ethics and Elections committees.
Republicans outnumber Democrats in the Ohio House, 60 to 39.
State Rep. George Distel, D-Conneaut, was named ranking Democrat on the Commerce and Labor Committee and snared a spot on the Public Utilities Committee and the Education Committee.
