The Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp.'s property committee also handled these matters Monday:
Heard that the $7 million Mahoning County Children Services building, adjacent to the George V. Voinovich Center, will be complete on time in February.
Heard that demolition work to begin clearing property for the new $3.8 million 7th District Court of Appeals building can get under way as soon as the CIC gets an official notice to proceed as well as a certification that funds will be available from the county, said Jason Whitehead, the CIC's executive director.
The new court would be built on West Federal between Phelps and Hazel streets. It would take up most of the space between the vacant Kress building and First Educators Investment Corp. A vacant lot and a few dilapidated CIC-owned buildings sit between Kress and First Educators. Those buildings would be demolished. Ricciuti Balog and Partners Architects of Youngstown and Welty Building Co., Akron, will handle the job. Welty has been working with the CIC to make sure the CIC's minority business requirements are met, Whitehead said.
Hired Brenda Williams as a consultant on the appellate court project. She will coordinate the building's mechanical, electrical and civil engineering work. Each of those services are not to exceed $25,000, Whitehead said.
Heard that the CIC has four properties available for development. They are the Semple Building, 265-271 W. Federal; John R. Davis Building, 217 W. Federal; the Master's property, 303-321 W. Federal; and the Kress Building, 111-121 W. Federal. Whitehead said the Master's block has more than 20,000 square feet for someone to do a project there.
