BOARDMAN -- John P. Brown III and his wife, Jan, of Boardman will attend the presidential inauguration in Washington this week at the invitation of the AMVETS Nation Commander, William A. Boettcher.
Brown, AMVETS National Veterans Administration volunteer services representative, will be representing AMVETS Department of Ohio. His wife is a trustee on the AMVET State Service Foundation.
The Browns will be attending a breakfast honoring the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients on Wednesday hosted by AMVETS. Thursday they will attend the Presidential swearing-in ceremony, the Inaugural Parade and the Veterans Ball.
Resident makes arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Henry D. Wright, 19, whose address isn't known, was held and handcuffed for police Saturday evening by a man who lives in the 200 block of West Dennick Avenue.
The resident said three men, two with bandannas over their faces and one in a white hat, knocked at the back door and rang the side doorbell. The three men ran, and the resident got his gun, telling Wright to come back to the house. The others ran through rear yards.
Police arrested Wright on an attempted burglary charge. Wright gave the officers an incorrect Social Security number and told them he lived on Cordova Avenue, which didn't check out, reports show.
Wilmington board action
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Wilmington Area Board of School Directors approved the following items Monday night:
U Permission was granted to choir director Karen Latta to accompany senior Craig Peffer and junior Wesley Clapper to the 2005 Music Educators All-Eastern Chorus to be held in Baltimore March 3-6.
U Jodi Drake was hired as part-time food service worker at $6.35 per hour.
U Stephanie Taylor was hired as assistant girls softball coach at a salary of $825 for the season.
U Greg Schmitt was hired as assistant boys track coach at a salary of $1,400 for the season.
U Nicholas White, Amy Genkinger and Heather Lark were added to the elementary teacher substitute list.
'Food, Land, People'
ALLIANCE -- The John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center will have a workshop, "Food, Land, People," from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
This workshop is designed for anyone who works with children and who is looking for enjoyable activities for children. The activities are based on agriculture and are designed to help children realize that our food does not really come from a grocery store, workshop organizers said.
The cost is $35. Participants should bring a sack lunch and dress for the weather.

MRDD, board project
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and the Mahoning County Mental Health Board are working on a pilot project.
The two agencies are collaborating to serve people with a dual diagnosis of serious mental illness and mental retardation or other significant developmental disability.
The target population to be served in this 12-month pilot project are county residents meeting both the diagnostic and eligibility criteria for the two services.
Upon conclusion of the pilot project, a decision will be made to terminate or extend the project, or to establish a more permanent delivery structure to provide services to the target population, officials said.
