I stayed at the Hampton Inn, 202 Cypress Gardens Blvd., (863) 299-9251, www.hamptoninn.com, for my Winter Haven visit and was impressed with the free breakfast and wireless Internet service in the lobby. There's no restaurant, but it sits next to an Outback steakhouse. Rate: $109 a night for up to four people.
The Lake Roy Beach Inn & amp; Suites, 1823 Cypress Gardens Blvd., (863) 324-6320, www.lakeroybeachinn.com, sits on a lake less than two miles away from Cypress Gardens. Suite with a kitchenette, $98.
WHERE TO EAT
The Cypress Gardens concession stands charge predictably outrageous prices. Exhibit A: $6.25 for a cheeseburger and fries. (Exhibit B: $4.75 for a hot dog.) But the food is pretty good, particularly the ribs at Backwater Bill's BBQ. Ice cream stands and shops are plentiful.
TICKETS
Until March 1, everyone pays $29.95 each, which is good for two days. (You must go to the guest services booth the first day to get your second-day pass.) Starting in March, prices move to $34.95 for adults, and $29.95 for children under 10 and adults over 54. Children 2 and under get in free. A yearlong pass costs $64.95.
