Local teams dominate Top Gun tournament

Saturday's quarterfinals included five from Austintown Fitch High.
ALLIANCE -- Austintown Fitch High had five wrestlers advance to the quarterfinals Saturday, leading area schools at the Top Gun tournament, hosted by Alliance High School.
The Falcons, with 811/2 points, were third in the team standings of the 41-team event. Pemberville Eastwood led with 1281/2 points and Progressive Christian Academy of New York was second with 871/2.
Other schools include Boardman, who placed 15th with 46 points; Alliance, 22nd with 411/2 points; and Poland, 38th with seven points.
For Fitch
Fitch's wrestlers who returned to the championship quarterfinals were Tony Jamison (14-2), a freshman at 103 pounds who was to wrestle Daniel Kolodzik of Miami Valley; junior Nick Bodnar (12-2), who was scheduled against Brian Yutzy of Berea at 135 pounds; senior Anthony Gigliotti (13-2), who was to wrestle Shane Snyder of Spring Grove at 145 pounds; senior Fred Weidenthal (13-2), who was to face off against Alliance senior Josh Winner (16-1) at 160 pounds, and junior Joe Stryfellor (11-4), at 275 pounds, scheduled against Tim Reed of Madison.
Boardman was represented in the quarterfinals seniors Adam Chizmar (13-4) at 119 pounds and Jon Green (13-1) at 130 pounds.
Chizmar was scheduled against Adam Kriwinsky (22-2), while Green was to face Alliance junior Josh Cintron (13-5).
Poland senior Max Pearce (9-5) was set at 125 pounds against Ben Johnson of Massillon Jackson (26-3).
Alliance's other representatives were senior Chad Shields, who took a 16-3 record against Tommy LaRosa of Avon (24-0), and sophomore Matt Walker (18-0), who was to take on Jeff Erb (15-3) of New Oxford.
