Trustees appoint superintendent

BOARDMAN -- Larry R. Wilson, who has worked for the township for nearly 22 years, has been appointed as road superintendent.
Wilson replaces Gary Dawson, who died in December. Trustees appointed Wilson at its Monday meeting.
Wilson joined Boardman in 1983 as a laborer in the road department and was promoted to driver in 1991 and then operator in 1996. In 2001, he was named 2nd assistant superintendent by trustees, and two years later was named 1st assistant superintendent.
"Larry has over 20 years of experience, the last three working hand-in-hand with Gary Dawson, a gentleman who just did a phenomenal job," Boardman Trustee Thomas Costello said. "It just made sense to promote him to road superintendent."
The road superintendent is in charge of making sure all township vehicles are maintained, as well as maintaining more than 140 miles of roads in Boardman and taking care of the storm sewer system.
Wilson has been president and lead negotiator for the Township Workers Association, a nonaffiliated union representing employees in the road department, for 12 years.
