Trumbull County Metro Parks has received a $484 grant from the state for putting navigational aids on the Mahoning River.
Lowellville village also received the same type of Mahoning River grant for $726.
These grants are two of eight announced Thursday for Ohio communities and local agencies that received a total of $34,830.
These grants are awarded to improve boating safety for the state's estimated 3 million recreational boaters.
The money is for the purchase and placement of navigational aids on inland waterways, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Waterways can be marked as controlled, restricted and hazardous areas.
Buoys and signs must comply with a standard inland waterway regulatory marking system.
Navigational Aid Grants are administered by the ODNR Division of Watercraft and funded through the Ohio Waterways Safety Fund.
The fund consists of watercraft registration and titling fees, a percentage of the state gasoline sales tax and money from the U.S. Coast Guard.
