GIRLS BASKETBALL Grant is leader in Ursuline win
Tyra Grant tallied 31 points as the Fighting Irish beat rival Mooney.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Tyra Grant scored 13 of her game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter as Ursuline High pulled away for a 64-45 victory over Cardinal Mooney in a Steel Valley Conference girls basketball game on Thursday night.
Vannessa Dickson added 17 points for the Fighting Irish (9-2, 4-0 SVC), who entered the fourth quarter with a two-point lead.
Cardinal Mooney (5-6, 1-3) led 28-25 at halftime. Amber Bodrick led the Cardinals with 18 points and Gina Brunetti scored 11.
Beaver Local 65, Wilson 19
YOUNGSTOWN -- Beaver Local took control early with a 17-2 first-quarter. Mallory Yajko had 23 points and Sam Mobley added 11 for the Beavers (4-11)
Wilson (1-12) missed seven layups in the first half. Bethany Kotapish paced the Redmen with 11 points, Kionna Kimbrogh had three steals and four assists and Aniqua Donlow pulled down 13 rebounds.
Western Reserve 50, South Range 46
BERLIN CENTER -- Saleena Niehaus scored 22 points for Western Reserve, which trailed 25-24 at halftime, but outscored the Raiders 18-11 in the third quarter.
Sara Kutsko added 11 points for the Blue Devils (4-8, 3-3 Inter-County League).
South Range (5-9, 2-4) was led by Heather Stacy, who scored 10 points.
Jackson-Milton 39, Mineral Ridge 33
NORTH JACKSON -- Megan Whitmer led Jackson-Milton with 11 points and Jillian Adams added eight.
The Bluejays led 30-18 after three quarters.
Elyse Hawout scored 10 points for Mineral Ridge (2-10, 0-6 ICL). Rachel Siler scored nine and Abbey Kiger had eight.
Springfield 60, Campbell 27
CAMPBELL -- Angelina Fiumara scored 13 points for the Tigers (9-3) and Joanna Dick added 10 in a non-league game.
Samantha Cavalier finished with nine rebounds for Springfield and Chelsea Quimby had four assists.
Sophia Brown led Campbell (2-9) with 10 points.
East Palestine 50, Crestview 47
NEW WATERFORD -- East Palestine opened the second half with a 21-7 run to take a nine-point lead and held off Crestview's fourth-quarter rally.
Samantha DiCello went 6-for-6 at the free throw line and led the Bulldogs (9-4, 6-3) with 19 points. Emiliee Givens and Ashley Ehrenberg added 10 points each.
Crestview (8-6, 6-3) led 24-19 at halftime. Brianne Phillis scored a game-high 20 points, going 10-for-12 at the line, for the Rebels. Elyse Mongillo had six assists and Caitlin Crowell added four steals.
Sharon 69, Mercer 36
SHARON -- Sophomore guard Brittney Csatlos recorded a quadruple double as Sharon improved to 12-3, 9-0.
Csatlos totaled 26 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 12 steals as the host Tigers regrouped from a slow start. Sharon trailed 12-6 after the first quarter but outscored Mercer 45-13 over the next two quarters.
Carol Dolci added 18 points for the Tigers, who field an all-sophomore starting lineup.
Carlene Garthwarz paced Mercer with 12 points.
