YSU Seminar to focus on challenges that female teenagers can face

YOUNGSTOWN -- The film festival award-winning movie "Thirteen" is the centerpiece of a seminar Friday on female teen aggression.
The seminar, "Sweet Thirteen?", will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Chestnut Room of the Kilcawley Student Center at Youngstown State University and will focus on challenges that face young females, and the activities and programs available to assist them.
Twentieth Century Fox's "Thirteen," winner of the director's award at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, is described as a raw and revealing insight into urban adolescence and gives insight into a female teen's mind.
The seminar is designed for teachers, parents, social workers, counselors, probation and parole officers, police, psychologists, clergy and juvenile detention workers.
Panelists include judges, attorneys, hot line operators and program administrators.
Registration fees are $50 for professionals, $45 for parents and $25 for students and includes continental breakfast, lunch and a snack.

The event is sponsored by the Boardman Township and Poland Village police departments, Forum Health/Center for Behavioral Medicine, The 224 Connection, YSU's criminal justice department and the Mahoning County Bar Association.
