Accident kills man and horse

MESOPOTAMIA -- A man driving a horse-drawn buggy was killed when the vehicle struck electric lines on the border of Trumbull and Geauga counties and the horse bolted, according to the two counties' sheriff's departments.
The identity, age and residence of the victim were not released. The horse also was killed.
The buggy was southbound on Bundysburg Windsor Road about a half-mile south of state Route 87 about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday. It is unknown if the wires were on the road or if they had drooped close to it, officials said.
The Geauga County Sheriff's Department said investigators found two ceramic insulators that hold the wires atop poles on the ground and are trying to determine whether those devices -- or the wood arms holding them on the pole -- failed.
The horse and crumpled buggy came to rest on the Trumbull County side of the road, about 50 yards away from the apparent point of impact with the wires.
The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department and the line's owner, Cleveland Electric and Illuminating, are investigating the accident.
Bundysburg Windsor Road is the border between Trumbull and Geauga counties.
