Seven students qualified for state competition.
CANFIELD -- Mahoning County Career & amp; Technical Center students won awards in the Region 11 Business Professional of America competition.
Business students throughout Northeast Ohio competed in the 30th annual event, held last month at Trumbull Career & amp; Technical Center. The MCCTC students are juniors and seniors in the school's information technology programs for support and services, and for programming and networking.
Award winners were:
UCollin Gillam of Canfield, second place, Microsoft network administration, network design team and fundamental word processing; fourth place, CISCO Systems administration.
UShannon Bartlett of West Branch, second, prepared speech; third, extemporaneous speech.
UGreg Martin, Jackson-Milton, second, visual basic programming; third, C++ Programming.
UNathan McCue, West Branch, second, PC servicing and troubleshooting; fourth, fundamentals of HTML.
UJustin Miller, Boardman, second, network design team; third, Microsoft network administration.
URay Detwiller, Austintown, third, visual basic programming.
UAmber McCabe, Struthers, fourth, interview skills.
UJohn Reighard, Canfield, second, network design team.
UMonica Burnside, Jackson-Milton, second, keyboarding production.
USteve Hood, home-schooled, Mia Hupp of Campbell and Matt Ward, of Austintown, first place, Web site development.
In addition, seven students qualified for the state competition March 17-18 in Columbus: Gilliam, Martin, McCue, Hood, Hupp, Ward and Burnside.
Helen Slack, information technology teacher, is the school's adviser for the Business Professional of America competition.
BPA is a national organization for high school, college and middle school pupils preparing for careers in business and information technology occupations.
