YOUNGSTOWN -- Three youths, one who had a loaded gun, were arrested in separate cases Thursday.
Eugene Thompkins, 13, of East Myrtle Avenue was found with a loaded .25-caliber pistol at 439 Emery Ave. when police entered with a search warrant around 4:30 p.m.
Eugene was taken home, where he and his mother were advised of his rights. The boy told police he bought the gun for $80 from a man on the East Side. He was charged with underage purchase of a firearm and taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.
Also arrested at 439 Emery was Donald Thompkins, 18, of East Myrtle Avenue on a charge of trafficking in drugs. His relationship to the boy wasn't immediately clear. Police said Donald Thompkins was found lying near a clothes bin, which contained seven packaged-for-sale bags of suspected crack cocaine.
At Hillman Middle School, a 12-year-old South Avenue girl was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct and taken to JJC. Reports show she repeatedly struck an officer who broke up a fight between her and another pupil.
At West Elementary School, an 11-year-old Oregon Avenue girl was arrested on a charge of assault on a teacher and taken to JJC. Police said the girl bit, kicked and grabbed the teacher by the neck.
