AKRON -- Jeanna Cunningham and Danielle Bolt set school records and teamed with Aaliyah Gillespie and Yandeh Joh to break the 4x400-meter relay mark Saturday at the All-Ohio Championship.
Cunningham set the school mark in the 400 with a second-place time of 55.82 seconds, while Bolt placed second in the 200 in 24.59 to break the school record.
The relay ran a time of 3:49.66 to shatter the YSU record by more than three seconds.
Gillespie also finished second in the 60 hurdles (8.67) and Cunningham was eighth in the 200 (25.10).
Marielle Glanz ran the second-fastest 800 in school history (2:15.02), finishing third, while Emily Schnitkey was sixth in the mile (5:06.07) and ninth in the 3,000 (10:34.07).
Katy Williams was sixth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 54 feet, 1 3/4 inches, while Bethany Anderson placed ninth (51-6 1/2).
R.D. Goodright highlighted the men's performances with a second-place showing in the 800 (1:55.73) and an eighth-place finish in the mile (4:26.96).
Scott Weiser finished fifth in the 400 (50.23) and seventh in the 200 (22.85), while Nick Smith placed fifth in the 3,000 (8:59.00) and sixth in the mile (4:18.70). Matt Paullin finished seventh in the 5,000 (15:32.98) while Dave Mealy was eighth (15:40.71).
Kyle Dalton was seventh in the high jump (6-0 3/4) and Jason Greenamyer was seventh in the long jump (21-5 1/2).
Drew Weizer was seventh in the weight throw (52-9 1/2) and Nick Rodland was ninth in the shot put (46-4).

Wildcats tryouts
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dr. Craig Mangie and Dr. Frank Petrakos, owners of the Mahoning Valley Wildcats, announced open tryouts for the minor league basketball team's inaugural season, Feb. 26-27 at Struthers Field House.
The Feb. 26 tryouts will be from 1:30-4 p.m., and the Feb. 27 tryouts from 4:30-7 p.m.
Players must be at least 19 years of age, and not currently playing college basketball.

Correction
Canfield High's Abby Pritchard qualified for the district swim meet in two events. She was 20th in the 100-meter butterfly and 30 in the 200 individual medley. She was inadvertently omitted from Monday's story about the sectional meet.
Thiel's Herrmannnamed by PAC
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Thiel freshman forward Joe Herrmann was named Presidents' Athletic Conference men's basketball co-player of the week.
Herrmann shared the honor with Bethany's Matt Drahos.
Herrmann led the Tomcats to two wins, averaging 29 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
Steel Valley boxersin action
*YOUNGSTOWN -- The Steel Valley Boxing Club, operated by Chuck Bayley, Tom Cordell and Joe Venerosa, will have three boxers in two pro shows in West Virginia Friday.
On a Jerry Thomas-promoted card at Wheeling Island's Gaming Center, in a six-round main event, Steel Valley's Adam Smith (2-4, 1 knockout) from Girard will be in a heavyweight bout with Wheeling's Mike Napple (4-0, 2 KOs).
In Fairmont, W. Va., at the Westchester Village and Banquet Hall, Zack Page and Rasheen Daniels, will be in action on a seven-bout card promoted by Simons Promotions.
Both bouts will be four-rounders. Page (3-2, 2 KOs) of Warren takes on Darren Reese (2-8, 1 KO) from Indianapolis, in a cruiserweight battle. Daniels (0-3-1), also from Warren, will fight Vance Garvey (5-12-2) of Indianapolis in a junior middleweight fight.
Phantoms pee-wees win
BOARDMAN -- The Phantoms peewee A major team defeated Geauga 5-3 Sunday at the Ice Zone.
Scott McKee had two goals, while Cory Barnhouse, Brian Styers and Mike Gorcacz each had one. Cory Barnhouse and Adam Robertson had one assist each, and John O'Brien stopped 14 shots.
Mooney lifters fare well
AUSTINTOWN -- Five Cardinal Mooney High boys earned accolades at the state powerlifting meet recently, hosted by Fitch High.
Junior George Clarke was first in the dead lift in the 275-pound class; junior Colin Chambers was first in the bench press and dead lift, 220-pound class; Matt Lyden, a freshman, was first in the bench press and dead lift, 165-pound class, and broke two state records; junior John Mayo was second in power lifting, 198-pound class, with a combined total of 1,100 pounds, and junior Raphe Neapolitan was first in power lifting, 198-pound class, and was named best lifter for teenagers in power lifting.
Rayen tournament
YOUNGSTOWN -- Warren Harding defeated Chaney 50-23 as the Rayen freshman boys basketball tournament continued.
Dan Wickham scored 17 points for the Raiders, and Avery Qualls added 12. Keilan Davis scored eight points for Chaney.
Also, Mooney defeated Wilson 47-40. Tim Marlowe led Mooney with 17 points and Mike Gemma scored 10. Lamar McQueen had 20 points for Wilson, while Luiz Charriez added 10.
