CAMPBELL -- Round-the-clock ambulance service is coming to the city in two weeks.
The city has reached an agreement with Reardon Midwest Ambulance of Youngstown for an ambulance and crew to be stationed at city hall, 351 Tenney Ave., beginning March 1.
Reardon Midwest also maintains stations at 184 S. Bridge St. in Struthers and 2726 Center Road in Poland, so ambulance service is never far away, owner Terry Reardon said.
"It's something we've never had in the city, and it's something we need," Mayor John E. Dill said Saturday. "This is a good thing for the people of Campbell."
The city considered two other ambulance services, but their response times to get from Market Street in Youngstown or the Youngstown-Poland Road in Struthers were problematic, Dill said.
"With the population getting older, we're happy that we're going to cut the time we'll have in response to any emergencies," the mayor said. "Instead of it taking 10 to 20 minutes for an ambulance to get into the city of Campbell, we're talking very few minutes now."
The contract with Reardon Midwest provides for an ambulance presence in Campbell from March 1 through Dec. 31, at no cost to the city.
The company will rent space for a nominal amount on the bottom floor of city hall as crew quarters for its employees, the mayor said.
