Howland's Ellie Shields one shy of tying record

Fitch beat Hubbard, 44-38, and Rayen topped Niles, 53-28.
brookfield -- Junior center Ellie Shields scored a career-high 37 points as the Howland High girls basketball team defeated Farrell, 66-53, in the Brookfield Tournament.
The Tigers (7-1) will play in tonight's championship game.
Shields was one point shy of Howland's school record of 38 set by Angela Cape (2000-01) and Caroline Hanshaw (2004-05). She also had 10 of Howland's 35 rebounds.
The Tigers also shot well (27 of 55).
Junior guard Carly Sabat had 10 points and seven of Howland's 21 assists.
Howland's only loss was to North Canton Hoover.
Senior Dierica Blackwell had 19 points for Farrell (5-2).
Fitch 44, Hubbard 38
AUSTINTOWN -- Krista Mayes scored 14 points, including four in the last quarter, to lead Fitch which had trailed 32-31.
Alexis Hall also sparked the Falcons' fourth-quarter surge with four of her six points. Courtney Williams added seven points for the winners (5-4).
Sheila Drummond tallied 20 points to pace Hubbard.
Rayen 53, Niles 28
NILES -- Senior Danielle Liggins scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds, two steals, two assists and a blocked shot to lead Rayen (5-3).
Sophomore Brittany Taylor scored 18 points and had five rebounds, 10 steals and four assists.
For Niles, Nina Gabreleik had 10 points, two rebounds and three steals.
Columbiana 58, Lowellville 32
COLUMBIANA -- Good defense held Lowellville to just two field goals in the second half when Columbiana (7-2) took control of the game.
The Clippers had their "K" game in high gear with senior Kristina Davidson getting 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Krista Johnson had 12 points and seven rebounds while Katie Douglas also had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Johnson, a junior point guard, also had seven assists.
The game featured a matchup of good post players: Douglas, a sophomore at 6-1, and Lowellville's Ali Grapevine. The 6-2 Grapevine, a sophomore, had a team-high nine points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Kaitlin McCarthy had three assists for the Rockets (5-3).
Liberty 77, Leetonia 25
LEETONIA -- Ashley White scored 26 points while Michelle Dykes added 18 with 10 rebounds and Katrina Neskovich 10 points with 15 rebounds to pace Liberty (7-2).
Katie Grunick and Erin Lamb each scored five points to lead Leetonia (0-7).
Stow 102, Warren Harding 25
WARREN -- Liana Jennings poured in 30 points as Stow remains undefeated (5-0).
Cate Ciachetti added 15 points and Emilee Ritchie 14, including four 3-point goals and Allyssa Wagers 13 points to bolster the winners.
Jahmarra Warfield had nine points to lead Harding (1-4).
