Plane flips in snow; occupants unharmed

Thursday, December 22, 2005

NORTH LIMA -- A small airplane skidded off the runway and turned over when the landing gear got stuck in the snow at Youngstown Elser Metro Airport, the state highway patrol reported.
The pilot, John Kummer of Columbiana, told the Ohio State Highway Patrol that his windshield iced over as he landed about 6 p.m. Wednesday, blocking his vision of the runway.
The plane then slid off the left side of the runway and into the snow, where he said the landing gear became stuck in the snow, causing the plane to turn over.
Neither Kummer nor his daughter, Liesl, who was also in the plane, was injured, the patrol said.
