Officials work on list of projects to fund

MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County commissioners are making a list of projects they hope to fund with the $500,000 they will receive in capital improvements millage next year.
That millage comes from the half-mill commissioners levied for 2006 and designated for that purpose.
Renovating the office of District Justice Lawrence Silvis in Jackson Center is a priority, Commissioner Brian Beader said, because roof repair and a new heating and air conditioning system are needed. Beader said there is also inadequate records storage and the workspace available is too small.
Commissioner Michele Brooks noted that it cost $300,000 each to renovate two other district justice buildings.
In addition, Commissioner Olivia Lazor said the courthouse computer needs approximately $7,000 in software updates, including giving officeholders the ability to access their courthouse e-mail from home.
Beader also said that the Emergency 911 center has "extreme needs" for updating its radio system, but he didn't elaborate.
No decisions have been made, but commissioners agreed they will have to make decisions soon on how divide the money.
