HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL Rayen wallops Poland; Taylor scores 22 points

Mooney lost to Kennedy Catholic while Boardman won a Federal League game.
POLAND -- The Rayen School girls basketball team limited Poland to 14 points in the first half Saturday en route to a 58-33 romp.
Brittney Taylor scored 22 points and Kenysha Tennant added 20 as the Tigers (3-2) opened up a 29-14 halftime edge.
Jessica Toth led the Bulldogs (2-5) with 14 points.
Kennedy Catholic 48,Mooney 33
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- Dierdre Reimold scored 13 points to lead the Eagles (4-1) past the Cardinals (1-3).
Also for Kennedy Catholic, Kendra Radkowsky scored 11 points and Jenna Schwartz 10.
For Mooney, Sarah Pelini scored 10 points.
Boardman 42,Massillon Perry 39
MASSILLON -- The Spartans jumped out to a 31-16 halftime lead, then hung on for their fifth win as the Panthers dominated the fourth quarter by an 18-7 margin.
April Melquist led the Spartans (5-1, 2-0 Federal League) with 17 points. Courtney Schiffauer scored 10.
For Perry (4-2, 0-2), Olivia Myers and Jackie Randulic scored 14 points each.
Columbiana 40, Struthers 36
STRUTHERS -- The Clippers (4-2) rallied in the second half to hand the Wildcats (4-1) their first loss of the season in the Struthers Wildcat Holiday Classic championship game.
Columbiana, behind 20-17 at intermission, outscored Struthers 10-6 in the third quarter and 13-10 in the final period.
Krista Johnson and Katie Douglas sparked the Clippers with 11 points apiece while Colleen Eisenbraun added 10.
Halle Minchin-Skook led the Wildcats with 12 points. Ashley Galbraight chipped in with 11.
Mathews 63, Wilson 15
STRUTHERS -- Lauren Roscoe scored 13 points and Sophie Paddock hit for 12 more for the Mustangs in the consolation game of the Struthers tournament.
Nine players scored for the Mustangs who led 16-3 after one quarter and were in front 33-9 by the break.
Sharon 54,Hickory 35
SHARON -- The Tigers (6-1) were in command 26-12 at intermission as Janine McDonald led a balanced attack with 16 points and she pulled down 10 rebounds.
Brittany Csatlos added 13 points and she had five assists and five steals. Cara Bolci finished with 12 points. Tierica Crawford and Erin Whieman led Hickory with seven points apiece.
BoysAkron Hoban 43,Ursuline 42
YOUNGSTOWN -- Dave Francesconi made both ends of a 1-and-1 with 17 seconds remaining to put Akron ahead, 43-41, as the Knights remained unbeaten at 5-0.
Hoban sealed the win when Ursuline's Jerome Jones made the front end of a 1-and-1 attempt at three-tenths seconds, then missed the second.
Jones, a 6-8 senior, had 14 points, while D'Aundray Brown, a junior forward, added 12 for the Irish (3-2).
Six-three Roland Battle had 15 points and six rebounds for Hoban, whose widest lead was seven points. The Knights had a 17-13 edge on the boards.
Ursuline's wins have been over Blackhawk, Canfield and Chaney while its other loss was to Beaver Falls.
Columbiana 59,Mathews 46
STRUTHERS -- In the consolation boys game of the Struthers Wildcat Holiday Classic, Columbiana High broke open a close game as it outscored Mathews 20-14 in the fourth quarter to prevail.
Derec Graft paced the Clippers with 27 points. Morgan Hart added 14.
Tarin Brown led the Mustangs with 17 points. Josh Collier finished with 11.
Springfield 89,Jackson-Milton 31
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Jeremy Russell scored 21 points as four Tigers reached double figures. Andrew Schuler netted 14 points while Dane Dobson had 12 and Schuler 11.
Late Friday
BRISTOLVILLE -- Champion's Justin Shaker hit a key 3-pointer in the closing minute and Mark Jackson made one of two free throws with nine seconds left as Champion held off Bristol 69-67.
Jackson finished with 29 points and eight rebounds for the Flashes. Mitch King led Bristol with 21 points.
