Official asks for '06 budget early
MERCER, Pa. -- Mercer County Commissioner Brian Beader wants the commissioners to approve next year's budget earlier than usual.
Tuesday he asked county Fiscal Director John Logan to start preparation of the 2006 county budget next week. He said he would like to see final approval of the budget early in December, instead of Dec. 29 or 30 as has been the case for the last several years.
In other business at the commissioners' chief clerk's meeting, Bill Boyle, county director of administrative services, reported that negotiations with the Teamsters local representing about 60 county jail guards will start after Labor Day. Their contract expires Dec. 31.
He also reported that no settlement has been reached yet with the United Steelworkers local representing workers at the county 911 center and sheriff's department. He would not comment on how those negotiations are proceeding.
