Board set to meet to adopt revised calendar

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The New Castle Area School Board will have meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to adopt a revised school calendar with pupils starting school Sept. 12, instead of Sept. 6.
Superintendent George J. Gabriel said the delay would give contractors an extra week to clean the remaining Phase 2 construction areas of the district's new combined junior/senior high school and to set up the district's new furniture.
Paving of the parking areas and roadway south of the building was scheduled to begin Tuesday, but officials were unsure if impacts of hurricane Katrina would delay that.
