ICL/TCL Grafton's career night powers Lisbon's romp
South Range, Jackson-Milton and McDonald opened with victories. MARTINS FERRY -- Josh Grafton had a career performance in one night for Lisbon in Friday's season opener. Grafton scored four touchdowns while rushing for 214 yards on eight carries and also had two interceptions in the Blue Devils' 35-14 victory over Martins Ferry. He scored on runs of 95, 73 and 1 yard and also caught an 11-yard pass from Cory Smith. Smith also scored on a 70-yard run. Lisbon finished with 408 total yards, 386 on the ground. Smith finished with 103 yards rushing on 10 carries. South Range 35, East Palestine 7 NORTH LIMA -- Kris Davis and Steve Bensinger each scored a pair of touchdowns as South Range rolled. Davis, who finished with 138 yards on 15 carries, had touchdown runs of 19 and 58 yards. Bensinger added a 22-yard scamper and returned a pass interception for 47 yards for his other score. The Raiders had 255 rushing yards and picked off four East Palestine passes. Dave Rauch returned another one for 26 yards and a touchdown. Jackson-Milton 20, Windham 8 WINDHAM -- Dean Stevens rushed for 65 yards on 15 carries, which included touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards as the Bluejays rallied for the victory. Zach Jacobson scored on a 1-yard run to give Windham a 8-0 lead in the second quarter. Josh Barringer tallied on a 1-yard run to tie it 8-8 at intermission. Stevens scored a TD in each of the third and fourth quarters. McDonald 48, Southington 14 McDONALD -- Matt Firment scored a pair of touchdowns as McDonald scored the first six times it touched the ball. Firment, who rushed for 60 yards on just two carries, scored on a 25-yard run and 48-yard punt return for the Blue Devils, who led 28-0 after the first period. Matt Harklerode had 16 carries for 142 yards and scored on runs of 4 and 3 yards for the Wildcats. Columbiana 38, Malvern 0 COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana dominated both sides of the football in rolling past Malvern. The Clippers totaled 353 yards while holding Malvern to just 67 yards, 14 of those on the ground. Cory Guy and Anthony Melone each scored a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Mike Welce passed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, and also kicked five extra points and a 30-yard field goal. Bo Papania rushed for 109 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown for the Clippers. Both of Guy's scores came on passes from Welce. Mathews 20, Western Reserve 14 (OT) BERLIN CENTER -- Nick Ocheltree scored from 7 yards out in overtime to lift Mathews. Ocheltree, who finished with 87 yards on 15 carries, also scored from 5 yards out. Brad Hughes caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Lucas Buckner with seven seconds remaining to force overtime for the Mustangs. Brandon Moherman threw scoring strikes of 22 yards to Chris Truitt and 11 yards to Nick Lude for the Blue Devils. Moherman finished the game 5-of-13 for 76 yards. Shawn Bryant led Reserve with 20 carries for 148 yards. United 48, Doylestown Chippewa 15 HANOVERTON -- Jordan Wrask rushed for 148 yards on 10 carries as the Eagles scored 28 points in the second quarter to overcome a 6-0 deficit. Wrask produced 65- and 35-yard scoring runs. Bryan Phillips passed for 169 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown to Derek Gainey.
