VOLLEYBALL Pshsniak scores 38; W. Branch sweeps



Boardman opened the season with a triangular sweep of Canfield and Girard.
BELOIT -- Lauren Pshsniak got the West Branch High volleyball season off to an impressive start Saturday as she scored 38 points as the Warriors upended Canton Timken and Rayen School.
In a 25-9, 25-3 victory over Timken, Pshsniak scored 17 points, had four kills and five passes.
Casey Benner added seven points, seven kills, two assists and three passes while Ashley Stecker had nine points and four passes.
The Warriors turned back Rayen 25-2, 25-5 as Pshsniak scored 21 points, four kills and four passes. Racheal Boyce had 11 points, five kills and 16 assists and Becky Rinyo had five points, six passes and 16 assists.
Timken (1-1) trimmed Rayen (0-2) 25-19, 25-17 in another match.
Boardman 25-25, Canfield 17-18
GIRARD -- Katie Spatara led the Spartans (2-0) with seven assists. Ali Sfara had five kills.
Natasha Kassim had three kills and three assists for the Cardinals (0-2).

GIRARD -- Spatara led the Spartans with eight assists and Danielle Williams had seven. Ali Sfara and Williams each had four digs.
Hillary Patterson scored 18 points and had eight kills for the Indians.
Girard 25-25, Canfield 8-20
GIRARD -- Hillary Patterson had 16 points and seven aces for the Indians (1-1). Chelsea Morrison had 13 kills and Aysha Nickels had 24 digs, while Elise Roscoe finished with eight digs.
Canfield (0-2) was led by Natasha Kassim, with three points. Lorraine Fowler had five kills and Jackie Netwick added four. Kate Heagerty had three assists and Kalie Luklan two digs.
Brookfield 25-25-25,Badger 19-19-8
BROOKFIELD -- Morgan Bonekovic collected 14 kills, eight points, three blocks and four digs for the Warriors.
Andrea Gladis tacked on 15 points, eight digs and five kills while Courtney Christy was in with five kills, five points and five digs.
Liberty 22-25-25-14-15,Struthers 25-19-20-25-13
STRUTHERS -- Chelsea O'Donnell led all hitters with 17 kills for the Leopards (1-0).
Megan Kay killed 13 balls while Jessi Knez tacked on seven kills.
LaBrae 25-14-25- 7-15,Southeast 23-25-22-25-11
LEAVITTSBURG--Maddie D'Orio had nine blocks and 16 kills while Cassie Dines registered 16 points and four aces to lead LaBrae over Southeast in the season opener for both teams. Lindsey Higgins contributed 30 assists and Lia Gordon 22 digs to aid the winners.
Jen Gahagen led Southeast with 27 points.
