Boardman book reading to feature local author
BOARDMAN -- A reading of "Kiss Me Goodnight: Stories and Poems by Women Who Were Girls When Their Mothers Died" is set for Sept. 10 at Barnes & amp; Noble Booksellers, 381 Boardman-Poland.
As evident from its title, "Kiss Me Goodnight" is a 346-page compilation of remembrances by women who lost their mothers when they were young. Among the authors is Jeanne Bryner of Newton Falls, who will lead the reading.
Bryner, who was 17 when her mother died of unknown causes, is a nurse and president of The Friends of the Newton Falls Library. She also teaches creative writing and has received writing fellowships from Bucknell University, the Wick Poetry Program at Kent State University, and the Ohio Arts Council. Among her other works are "Tenderly Lift Me Nurses Honored, Celebrated and Remembered;" "Breathless, Blind Horse: Poems;" and "Eclipse: Stories."

Local author focuseson 1909 chocolate trial
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lowell J. Satre, professor emeritus at Youngstown State University and author of "Thomas Burt, Miners' MP, 1837-1922: The Great Conciliator," adds a new book to his literary efforts.
In "Chocolate on Trial: Slavery, Politics and the Ethics of Business," Lowell probes the issues of globalization, corporate social responsibility, journalistic sensationalism and devious diplomacy surrounding the libel suit and subsequent landmark trial between English chocolatier Cadbury Bros. Ltd. and The Standard newspaper of London in 1909.
