VIENNA -- The Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 117 will sponsor an Aviation Day "Fly In" from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
The day will feature a presentation by astronaut Dr. Jay Apt. Apt has spent more than 847 hours in space, on four Space Shuttle missions, and performed two space walks.
He has been to the Russian space station Mir and is recipient of NASA's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Medal. He has worked in NASA's mission control center in Houston and directed the observatory at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, Calif.
Apt is executive director of the Carnegie Mellon Electricity Industry Center at Carnegie Mellon University, where he is a professor.
He will speak at a safety seminar from 10 a.m. to noon on the topic "Incredible speeds, incredible heights and beyond, safely."
The day will also feature a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. It will be all-you-can-eat and costs $5.
Experimental aircraft will also be there for viewing, said Ron Carroll of the EAA, who is helping to promote the event.
