Perisa nets two goals in JFK's 5-0 victory



Shannon Sudon scored three goals to help Badger defeat Warren Harding.
WARREN -- Freshman Mike Perisa scored two goals, and Paulo Lucero, Jack Weaver and Nathan Pirtz added one apiece as Warren JFK shut out Columbiana 5-0 Thursday in boys soccer.
Jerrod Cooper, Perisa and Weaver had an assist apiece.
Columbiana goaltender Brian Coulter had 16 saves. Matt Kokrak of Warren JFK had three.
West Branch 2, Niles 0
BELOIT -- Aaron Cornin and John Wallace each scored a goal for the Warriors (1-0-1).
Shane Young, the Warriors goaltender, had four saves. Joe Harvey had five for Niles (0-2).
Fitch 4, Akron Ellet 1
AKRON -- Brad Hrinko and Jeff Basile each had a goal and an assist to pace Austintown Fitch in the season opener for both teams. Nick Bowlen and Brian Haughey each added a goal for the Falcons. Fitch goalies Andrew Monk and Brian Remias had five and four saves, respectively.
Girls
WARREN -- The first varsity soccer game on Mollenkopf Stadium's new playing surface saw Shannon Sudon score all three goals in Badger's 3-1 win over Warren Harding.
Amanda Gordon and Lauren Hall had one assist each for Badger (2-0).
Katy Dvorack had 10 saves.
Lafaye Lilly scored Warren Harding's goal on an assist by Linz Montecalvo.
Stephanie Cross had 12 saves for the Raiders (0-1).
Niles 3, Boardman 1
NILES -- Two goals in the first half put Niles ahead as the Red Dragons prevailed. Niles goalkeeper Kelsey Mikesell registered six saves.
Elizabeth Shobel scored for Boardman, whose goalie, Lani Vlad, made 11 saves.
Warren JFK 3, Newton Falls 2
NEWTON FALLS -- Levie Polivka scored twice, and Roxy Hoerig scored once for the Eagles (1-0-0). Jenn Natalie and Kellie Kovac had assists.
For the Tigers (0-1-1), Kortni Collins and Bethany Runtas scored on assists from each other. Goalkeeper Jessica Moser made three saves.
