WARREN -- Fees for the Trumbull County Dog Pound on Anderson Avenue will be going up, after 34 years of staying the same.
Trumbull County commissioners approved the fee increases Wednesday. Robert Campana, dog warden, said they are needed to make improvements at the building. He added that the fees will be similar to what are charged in other cities, such as Youngstown.
Improvements needed at the pound are:
U$23,000 for a new roof, which is faulty and increasing heating bills to about $9,000 per year.
U$10,000 for interior and exterior improvements.
U$44,000 for two new trucks. The present vehicles are 1994 models and have 100,000 miles on them, Campana said.
U$25,000 to hire one more employee.
The new fees are:
UDog license goes from $12 to $14 until Jan. 20, and from $24 to $28 after the deadline.
UDog return to owner goes from $6 to $15 on the first day, and from $1.50 to $3 each additional day.
UDog adoption goes from $10 to $20 for dogs older than 3 months, and from $5 to $10 for dogs under 3 months.
UImpound fees go from $2 to $20 for owners who surrender a dog.
UImpound fees for dogs under 3 months go from $1 to $5, and from $1 to $2 for each additional dog.
Also on agenda
In other business, commissioners tabled the purchase of a waste treatment plant in Kinsman Township, and a tax abatement plan for Warren Fabricating in Hubbard Township.
Commissioner James Tsagaris said commissioners needed more time to discuss the treatment plant issue in light of questions raised by Commissioner Paul Heltzel about whether acquiring the plant would be in the county's best interest. The plant could be used to provide sewage treatment.
Tsagaris said commissioners will also take more time considering the Warren Fabricating abatement because of questions about the financial effect of the abatement on the Hubbard schools and Hubbard Township government.
