Remember Men at Work, the quirky Australian band that produced a string of quirky pop hits in the early '80s? Well, Colin Hay, the singer, guitarist and main songwriter of the band from Down Under, will perform at The Kent Stage tonight at 8. Tickets are $20. The theater is located at 175 E. Main St., downtown Kent.
Tickets go on sale today for three Cleveland concerts. Kings of Leon will be the Odeon Sept. 22 at 9 p.m.; Jethro Tull will be at the State Theatre Nov. 23 at 8 p.m.; and Rob Thomas, right, will be at the Palace Theatre on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. Kings of Leon tickets are $15 and go on sale at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today for an Oct. 8 concert by Weezer and Foo Fighters at Cleveland State University's Wolstein Center. Weezer has garnered high praise for their hook-heavy guitar pop, while Foo Fighters are known for their passionate, purposeful rock. Tickets are $39.50, $34.50 and $29.50 and are available through Ticketmaster.
Geneva-on-the-Lake is always fun, but this weekend it should be better than ever. That's because Old Firehouse Winery will host Celtic Feis, an Irish and Scottish festival, today and Sunday. More bands were added to the program this year, and music will be continuous during the evening. Admission is $3. Those who come Saturday will also get free admission for Sunday. Children under 18 are free on Sunday. Other entertainment will include Scottish dancing and West Side Steve's Irish Show. A special Celtic menu, wine and beer will be available.
You lucky dogs. The Lucky Dog Bluegrass Jam, featuring Northwest Territory, Mountain Therapy and Hidden Drive, will be held tonight at 7 at The Kent Stage, 175 E. Main St., Kent. Northwest Territory blends bluegrass, gospel, country, fiddle tunes and breakdowns with family humor and a fast-paced stage presence. Tickets are $15 at the door.
The Roundup at The Ranch, 4628 Ellwood Road, New Castle, Pa., an all-day affair, gets started at noon and ends when it's all over. David Allan Coe will hit the stage at 10 p.m. Tickets are $30 at the door. Other bands scheduled include Southern Crossing, Ashley Wiley, Dee Davis and Yelle Shaffer.
The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra with conductor Erich Kunzel will perform the final concerts of the 2005 Blossom Festival during Labor Day weekend. Shows are Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. The program will feature music from all six "Star Wars" films. Joining the orchestra will be narrator Anthony Daniels, right,who played C-3PO in the "Star Wars" films. A fireworks display will follow each concert.
"American Idol" finalist Camile Velasco, from the show's third season, will star in and lend her powerful vocals to Carousel Dinner Theater's production of "Footloose," running Sept. 14 through Nov. 12.
Velasco will be featured in the hit song, "Let's Hear It for the Boy." The Carousel, along with director/choreographer A. C. Ciulla, Tony-nominated choreographer for "Footloose" on Broadway, put its own spin on this musical by adding a rock concert feel to the production. The exhilarating dancing and acrobatics are accompanied by the multi-platinum soundtrack with songs from Kenny Loggins, Deniece Williams and Sammy Hagar.
Velasco recently signed with Universal Motown Records Group and is currently working on writing and recording songs for her first album. Her debut single is titled "Hangin' On."
