Furniture for 3 schools to be bought at 1 time

Some administrators are getting new titles, but their jobs won't change.
YOUNGSTOWN -- It's not all needed yet, but the Youngstown Board of Education has decided it will buy cafeteria furniture for three of the schools on its construction list all at one time.
Tony DeNiro, assistant superintendent of school business affairs, said he recommended the district seek joint bids on the cafeteria furniture for the new East High School, the new P. Ross Berry Middle School and the renovation of Chaney High School.
The idea is to create a bigger bid package that may bring a better price from vendors, he said. The board approved the plan Tuesday.
DeNiro said the cafeteria at Chaney is expected to open in November or December, so the furniture must be ordered now. The East High and Berry Middle school cafeteria furniture won't be needed for some time, he said.
The school projects, estimated at a total of about $70 million, are part of a $202 million building program under way in the district.
Cafeteria furniture for the three buildings is expected to cost around $240,000, with 80 percent of the expense to be picked up by the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission.
Title changes
In other business, Dr. Wendy Webb, district superintendent, presented the board with a new administrative organizational chart that shows two former department executive directors getting new titles.
Their jobs won't change, nor will their pay scales, said Mike McNair, district spokesman.
The title changes are in line with recommendations found in a curriculum audit done last year, he said.
Germaine Bennett, formerly executive director of human resources, now will be assistant superintendent of human resources.
DeNiro, formerly executive director of school business affairs, is now the assistant superintendent of that department.
