Former Cortland police officer found guilty of impaired driving

CORTLAND -- A former ranking Cortland police officer was found guilty Wednesday in Trumbull County Central District Court of an impaired-driving charge.
Stanley Lancey, a 22-year department veteran, pleaded no contest before Judge Thomas Campbell to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Lancey drove a cruiser into three mailboxes along state Route 46 early on March 31.
Judge Campbell found Lancey guilty of driving under the influence. He was fined $1,000 with $750 of it suspended and was sentenced to 180 days in jail.
The jail time was suspended and he was ordered to attend a three-day driver intervention program.
Lancey was placed on reporting probation for a year and must obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
A second charge of failure to control the cruiser was dismissed.
According to the patrol, Lancey failed a field sobriety test but passed a breath-alcohol test.
Further tests showed narcotics in his system: two tranquilizers and an antihistamine, the patrol reported.
Lancey has resigned from the department, and Mayor Curt Moll said the captain's spot will remain vacant, at least for now.
