2 receive prizes in poetry event



YOUNGSTOWN -- Elizabeth Crowll of Poland was the winner of the 2005 Pig Iron Poetry Slam Aug. 17 at Cedars Cafe downtown.
Second place in the competition went to Laurie A. Lyden of Boardman. The winners were selected by a volunteer panel of judges randomly selected from the audience.
First prize was a large ceramic piggy bank, five gift certificates, an over-size glass ice tea mug, two books, two poetry buttons reading "Living Post" and "Feed the Poets." Second-place prize was a ceramic piggy bank, a poetry button reading "Hug a Poet" and a book.
The annual competitive poetry event is sponsored by the Pig Iron Literary and Art Works, an incorporated Mahoning Valley Arts Foundation.
