Muckdogs turn error into 8-7 victory



Saturday's 11-inning game took almost five hours to play.
NILES -- A two-out error in the 11th inning started the winning rally for Batavia, as the Muckdogs defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, 8-7, Saturday night at Eastwood Field.
The game, which was delayed by storms, took nearly five hours to complete. The teams combined for 21 hits and five errors.
Thomas Cowley took over on the mound for the Scrappers in the 11th inning and retired the first two batters he faced.
Winning run
But, the Muckdogs' Julian Williams reached second base on a throwing error by Mahoning Valley's Jose Chavez.
After an intentional walk, Jeremy Slayden singled to left, scoring Williams.
The Scrappers were retired in order in the bottom of the inning.
Omar Casillas and Andrew Lytle had three hits apiece for the Scrappers, while Matthew Fornasiere had two.
Lytle, Fornasiere and Brent Thomas hit doubles for Mahoning Valley.
Joe Ness replaced Scrappers starting pitcher Scott Lewis in the second inning and pitched six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out 11.
