Team effort set for signs in school zone

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Neshannock Township supervisors will team up with the Neshannock school district to put up flashing school zone signs on Mitchell Road.
The school board and some parents asked the township to do all the work, including seeking bids. However, the school district will pay all the costs of erecting the lights near the high and elementary schools site on Mitchell Road.
Township Supervisor John DiCola Jr. said the engineer already has the specifications for the signs. He said two flashing signs will be put up indicating the 15-mile-per-hour speed limit at the start and end of each school day.
In other business at the supervisors' recent meeting, they announced that a resident of Spiker Lane has agreed to tap into the sewer line in front of her home. Neighbors have complained for some time about smells caused by the resident's malfunctioning septic system.
DiCola also noted that the sewer bills that are being mailed now reflect the new, higher rate of $65.10 per quarter.
He said the higher rate is from the an increase imposed by the New Castle Sanitation Authority, which treats the township's sewage.
