Council wants input on proposed carwash

Saturday, August 20, 2005

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- City council is seeking comments on a proposed carwash on Moravia Street and intends to conduct a public hearing on the matter before its work session Tuesday.
The public hearing is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. The work session is to start at 7:30 p.m. Both will be in council chambers.
Last month the city planning commission approved a conditional use request made by Luke Graziana, who is wants to construct the carwash at 1300 Moravia St., adjacent to his Cascade Express gas station. Graziana has been operating that gas station for the past two years.
City council must approve the request before Graziana can move forward with his plans. City officials said conditional use approval is needed because carwashes and their permitted uses are not listed or mentioned specifically in the city's zoning ordinance.
Graziana wants to construct a carwash with one touch-free automatic bay and three self-serve bays and has said he plans to break ground soon after obtaining council's approval for the project.
