Columbiana, Poland teams off to nationals



WARREN -- A team from Poland and one from Columbiana will represent the area at the 2005 Buick Scramble National Championships Oct. 13-16 in Orlando, Fla.
The five-person team from Poland represents Fonderlac Country Club and it won the gross division title with a 16-under-par 55 at Trumbull Country Club.
That team was headed up by Mill Creek Golf Course director of golf Dennis Miller, while his amateur teammates included Dan Schiavone, Alex Vrable, Rich Wise and Steve Frank.
Finishing second in the gross division was Youngstown Country Club with a 16-under-par 56.
In the net division the team from Copeland Hills Golf Course, headed by PGA professional Jack Becka won the title by two strokes with a 19-under-par 53 total.
Amateur members of the team included George Hall, Angelo Berardi, Taylor Hall and Jim Stallsmith.
Country Club of Ashland and Cadiz Country Club tied for second with 17-under-par scores of 55.
Eighteen five-person teams from throughout the Northern Ohio PGA Section competed in the event with each team represented by a PGA Professional.
The two winners will advance to the 214-team field at the Buick National Scramble in Orlando.
Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman Tiger Woods is scheduled to appear at the national tournament to award trophies to the champions.
