Calling volunteers for park cleanup day

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Jennings Environmental Center staff is looking for groups and individuals to pitch in at the park to celebrate the 12th annual National Public Lands Day on Sept. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Participants must be 12 or older and must register for the program by contacting the Center at (724) 794-6011 by Sept. 16.
National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the public lands Americans enjoy. Last year, nearly 80,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants. Trail construction and rehabilitation will be the focus of the day at Jennings.
Several miles of trail are suffering from the effects of several consecutive wet, stormy years and a large family of beavers. Lunch will be provided and each participant will receive a T-shirt commemorating the event.
Jennings is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset for hiking and other environmentally related activities.
