Offensive explosion brings in a big win

The team begins a nine-game homestand today.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers' losing streak ended at two games in a big way Wednesday night.
Mahoning Valley (29-27) rallied from a 4-2 deficit, outscoring Jamestown 11-1 over the final six innings of a 13-5 rout in a New York-Penn League game.
The Scrappers won the rubber match of the five-game series with the Jammers and return home tonight for the first of nine games at Eastwood Field. Mahoning Valley plays host to Batavia at 7:05 p.m.
The hit parade
The Scrappers had 17 hits Wednesday, led by designated hitter Cirilo Cumberbatch, who went 5-for-5 -- all singles -- and four RBIs.
P.J. Hiser went 3-for-5 with two home runs; his first inning round-tripper gave the Scrappers a short-lived 2-0 lead. Hiser finished with four RBIs.
Catcher Omar Casillas and third baseman Andrew Lytle also finished with three hits apiece.
Jamestown scored a run in the first inning on an error by Mahoning Valley shortstop Jose Chavez. Leadoff hitter Jeffrey Van Houten, who singled, scored from second base.
The Jammers took a 4-2 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Tanner Rogers and a two-run hit by Gaby Sanchez.
The Scrappers rallied for three runs in the fourth. With one out, Casillas and Lytle hit back-to-back singles. Cumberbatch then drove a single to center, scoring Casillas. Lytle scored from third when Brent Thomas hit into a forceout, then a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position.
Chavez then singled home Thomas.
After Jamestown tied the score in the bottom of the inning, Mahoning Valley scored three more runs in the fifth to take the lead for good.
Hiser hit his second two-run homer with one out, scoring Matthew Fornasiere, then Casillas doubled to left, and consecutive wild pitches by Jamestown's Jonathon Lewis allowed him to score.
The Scrappers scored two more runs in the seventh, as Cumberbatch's single scored Casillas and Lytle.
Then in the ninth, Casillas hit a sacrifice fly to score Fornasiere, and Cumberbatch finished his perfect night at the plate with a two-run single.
