Scrappers' bad start ends in a 5-2 defeat

The five-game series ends tonight.
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- Mahoning Valley starting pitcher Scott Lewis couldn't get out of the first inning, and the Scrappers lost their second straight, 5-2, to the Jamestown Jammers in a New York-Penn League game Tuesday night.
Lewis (0-2) got two relatively quick outs to start the game, then gave up a walk, a double and two singles, resulting in three runs.
Jamestown added a fourth run on an error and that lead held up for the remainder of the game.
Lewis faced seven batters -- five of them reached base and four scored, although the final run was unearned.
The Scrappers' offense, meanwhile, was stymied by Jamestown pitchers Matthew Goyen, Kenny Berkenbosch and Mike Bille.
Goyen went the first 51/3 innings, allowing just two hits. Berkenbosch went the next 22/3 innings -- he allowed a two-run homer to P.J. Hiser in the eighth.
It was Hiser's first home run of the season.
The Jammers scored their fifth run of the game in the fifth inning. Jeffrey Van Houten led off with a double and scored on a single by Gaby Sanchez.
Sanchez had three hits and three RBIs for Jamestown. Gary Roche went 3-for-4.
