NEW YORK-PENN LEAGUE Scrappers' six-game winning streak ends in extra innings

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers' six-game winning streak came to a halt Monday night in extra innings.
Gaby Sanchez homered to lead off the ninth inning, and Jeffrey Van Houten's two-out double in the 10th scored Gary Roche with the winning run in the Jamestown Jammers' 8-7 victory in a New York-Penn League game.
The Scrappers (28-26) blew leads of 4-0 and 7-4, but remained three games behind Auburn in the Pinckney Division standings.
Matthew Fornasiere had three hits, including a double, to lead Mahoning Valley.
Andrew Lytle, Chad Longworth and Trevor Mortensen all had two hits apiece.
Three-run first
The Scrappers loaded the bases in the first inning on two walks and a single, then Longworth drove in one run when he reached on an error, one of three Jamestown miscues in the game.
Cirilo Cumberbatch followed with a two-run single, giving Mahoning Valley a 3-0 lead.
The Scrappers made it 4-0 in the second when Jose Chavez walked, stole second and came around on a single by Lytle.
The Jammers (22-32) tied the score by scoring in three consecutive innings.
Kris Harvey drove in two runs with a single in the third, then Brett Hayes' single in the fourth and Van Houten's double in the fifth drove in runs.
The Scrappers regained the lead an inning later. Evandy De Leon walked and stole second, then with one out Fornasiere doubled him home. Longworth's double chased home Fornasiere.
Mahoning Valley's last run came in the seventh, Trevor Mortensen led off with a single and eventually scored when Chavez was caught in a rundown between first and second.
In Jamestown's 10th inning, Gary Roche and Harvey hit back-to-back singles with two outs. Van Houten then doubled to center scoring Roche with the winning run.
Matthew Loberg pitched the final three innings for the Scrappers and took the loss, his fourth straight.
The teams continue their five-game series tonight in Jamestown at 7:05.
The Scrappers finish an eight-game road trip Wednesday night before returning home for eight games, starting Thursday against Batavia.
