Woman robbed of carand purse with $700
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police were called shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday to the home of an East Midlothian Boulevard woman who said a man put a gun to her head and stole a car hours earlier.
The report says the woman went to a friend's home on Forest View Drive on the city's East Side for a ride home. When she and the friend got into the car, a man came out of the bushes and threatened her with the gun, telling the women to get out of the vehicle before he fled in it, the report says.
The man had a black semiautomatic handgun, the report shows. The victim and her friend recovered the car a few streets away, but the victim's purse containing $700 was missing, the report says.
3 consecutive meetingsscheduled in township
LAKE MILTON -- Milton Township trustees will have their regular meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the town hall building, 15990 Milton Ave. The meeting was moved from its normal 7 p.m. time because of two other meetings scheduled.
At 6 p.m., Mahoning County commissioners will have a special meeting. On the agenda is a resolution to rename the Mahoning Avenue Bridge in honor of Joseph Caskey, who was instrumental in getting grants for the water and sanitary sewer projects in the township.
The 7 p.m. meeting is to update the public on the water and sewer projects. Invited to that meeting are representatives from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Mahoning County Sanitary Engineers office as well as county commissioners. Both will be at the American Legion Post 737 Lounge, 16465 Milton Ave.
OU student reception planned in Boardman
BOARDMAN -- The Youngstown-Warren Chapter Network of the Ohio University Alumni Association will host a new student reception 7:30 to 9 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Boardman Ex-Servicemen's Club Pavilion in the township park.
The reception is being held to offer last-minute advice and help to students to connect with other Ohio University students before starting classes.

Playhouse directorto teach free seminar
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Playhouse is offering a free seminar in play directing taught by Bentley Lenhoff, executive director. Enrollment will be limited to a small number. The seminar starts later this month or in September and will meet on the days and times convenient for participants.
Applicants should submit a r & eacute;sum & eacute; and a letter of interest, and expect to be interviewed. Lenhoff said the seminar will be an intensive and practical weekly course aimed at developing the skills of directors and those with aspirations to direct live theater. Lenhoff has directed more than 400 productions at 26 community, professional and academic theaters in five states.
