Scrappers complete sweep of New Jersey

Mahoning Valley is over .500 but still in second place.
AUGUSTA, N.J. -- Having swept the New Jersey Cardinals, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers have moved on to play the Jamestown Jammers starting tonight.
The Scrappers scored three runs in the top of the third inning and went on to post a 4-3 victory over Cardinals Friday in a New York-Penn League game.
It was the third time this season that the Scrappers went over the .500 mark as they improved to 26-25, but they are still stuck in second place in the Pinckney Division. Auburn is in first place and Jamestown is in third.
In the third inning, the Scrappers' Jose Chavez led off with a single, then Evandy De Leon walked. Jose Constanza reached base on an error to load the bases.
Matthew Fornasiere walked, forcing home Chavez. After Omar Casillas popped out, Chris Clem singled home DeLeon and Constanza.
Cardinals take early lead
New Jersey took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Mahoning Valley tied the score in the second.
Casillas walked and Clem hit a double, then Casillas scored on Chad Longworth's sacrifice fly.
James Deters (3-3) worked 5 2/3 third innings for the Scrappers. He gave up seven hits and three runs and struck out eight to pick up the win.
Matthew Loberg came on in relief in the ninth inning for Mahoning Valley. He didn't allow a hit and struck out one for his sixth save of the season.
Clem went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Scrappers. Randy Roth hit two singles for Cardinals (25-26) who are in fourth place in the McNamara Division.
