SANDLOT Roth Brothers in winners bracket after beating Buffalo in 11 innings



YOUNGSTOWN -- With two rounds completed Friday in the National Amateur Baseball Federation Major Division (19-20 year old) Tournament, Roth Brothers and Youngstown Tri-County posted victories and remained in the winners bracket.
Tri-County was playing for the second time against Canton Pizza Oven, and results of the contest were not available at press time.
Anthony Albanese threw a complete game, allowed six hits and struck out two as Tri-County posted a 3-2 victory over Warren Lone Wolfe 3-2.
Joe Marzano and Paul Kello each hit a double to pace Tri-County.
Roth Brothers 5, Buffalo N.Y. 3
With the scored tied 3-3, Sam Wardle of Roth Brothers led off the top of the 11th inning with a single. With one out, Jim Putko walked, then Wardle scored on Eric Jones' double. Putko raced home on a single by Joe Butera.
Wardle came on in relief in the bottom of the nine with the bases loaded and two out. The first batter he faced hit a grounder, and Wardle threw him out at first base to end the threat.
Wardle faced seven batters, didn't allow a hit and struck out five to pick up the win.
Putko sparked Roth Brothers with two doubles and a single. Mark Nightingale added a triple and four singles.
In another winners bracket contest, Canton Pizza Oven topped Cleveland Mosquitos 10-6.
In the losers bracket, Pittsburgh St. John eliminated Garfield Blue Streaks 15-1; Cleveland Steve Sports won by forfeit which eliminated Akron Rangers.
Pittsburgh St. John's ousted Cleveland Sports 10-0, and Warren Lone Wolfe bowed out, losing to Cleveland Mosquitos 13-3.
