New pastor at center
YOUNGSTOWN -- New Covenant Worship Center (First Church of the Nazarene), 1900 Canfield Road, installed its new pastor, The Rev. David E. Langdon, on Sunday.
The Rev. Mr. Langdon is a native of East Liverpool and graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in music. He also obtained a master's of divinity in 2000 from Nazarene Theological Seminary. He is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene.
He served six years as associate pastor of music and the arts at Shawnee Church of the Nazarene in Kansas and 31/2 years as senior pastor at Woodsfield Church of the Nazarene in Ohio.
He lives with his wife, Dawn, and their sons, Nathan, 5, and Jonathon, 3, at 5055 Simon Road, Boardman.
Novena to St. Therese
YOUNGSTOWN -- Sts. Cyril & amp; Methodius Parish, 252 E. Wood St., will hold a Novena to St. Therese of The Child Jesus, "The Little Flower" at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1 and will continue for five consecutive Thursdays. After the 4 p.m. Mass, the rosary will be recited at 5 p.m.

Celebrating anniversary
EAST PALESTINE -- Grace Lutheran Church, Grant and Walnut streets, will celebrate the 94th anniversary of the congregation at the 10:45 a.m. worship service Sunday. There will be music by the choir, hand-chime choir and a soloist. After worship, there will be a reception with anniversary cake.

YOUNGSTOWN -- Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 Rayen Ave., will celebrate its 82nd anniversary at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
Butler Memorial was founded in 1923 by John Wesley Tucker. His granddaughter Joyce Tucker Paul will be honored for her work and service.
The Rev. Joe Johnson will be the guest speaker for morning worship. A dinner will follow the service.
'Kenya Mission Event'
CANFIELD-- Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 550 N. Broad St., will present the "Kenya Mission Event" at 7 p.m. Aug. 24. Bob and Denise Schmalzle will speak on their mission activities in East Africa, which will include updates on Kenya Lutherans.

Congregations to gather
SALEM -- The congregations of St. Paul Catholic, Holy Trinity Lutheran and Emmanuel Lutheran churches will gather from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Aug. 21 for their annual picnic at the Salem Saxon Club, state Route 9. After a dinner, the event will close with prayer.
Hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be provided. Each person or family attending is asked to bring a favorite dish that will serve at least eight and table service. Those who are planning to attend should call the parish office at St. Paul's at (330) 332-0336.
Annual Women's Day
WARREN -- The Body of Christ Church of God in Christ, 2025 W. Market St., will hold its fourth annual Women's Day at 11 a.m. Sunday.
The service will featuring evangelist and author Arlene Williams. She is a graduate of Rhema Bible School of Tulsa, Okla., and earned an associate degree in medical secretarial science from Youngstown State University. She is a writer and director of the book and play "The Steps of a Desperate Lady."

Hunger relief for Niger
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Diocese of Youngstown has announced that it is coordinating a local appeal for hunger relief in Niger, Africa. A serious food shortage is affecting more than 3.6 million people in Niger. Locusts and drought have virtually destroyed food production across much of the country.
Contributions can be sent to: Niger Hunger Relief Fund/CRS, c/o Office of Social Action, Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown.
